Smooth Organic Carvings ….. and lots of them!

For a client who needed 20 plus of these organic but precise double sided carvings cut out of highly figured salvaged walnut planks from Mendocino County. These were milled down and carved on our 5-Axis CNC router.

The final assembly is almost complete; consisting of accurately slotting the carved walnut parts into the aluminum chassis. The bottom is a removable drawer, and the top contains electronics controlling the outer light on the 3D printed logo, a smartphone Qi charger hidden within the wood itself, and a rechargeable battery to power it all.

The beginning / first side of the 2 sided carving from hardwood walnut salvaged planks. The salvaged planks need to be scanned for metal from nails, debris, and even possible bullets (!!!) before production. Such beautiful wood takes a bit of preliminary work before going into production.

Nest batches of these carvings into the large salvaged walnut planks optimizes the output. They’re starting at 10 inches wide and 2 inches thick. Walnut moves around a lot even after being dried, so the thickness is necessary to get stable parts.

Double sided organic carving on one side and accurate slotting on the other side and ends to accommodate specialty fitting of parts and pockets for installing the electronics.
